Location

The historic village of Chilmark which dates back to Roman times and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book, is famous for its quarry which supplied stone for Salisbury Cathedral as well as the surrounding villages. The village has close ties with Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, where the early settlers set up home and called it Chilmark, complete with a Black Dog Tavern, although this was a tea room and not a pub.

Nearby attractions include: Salisbury Cathedral, Stourhead House, Stonehenge, Longleat and Gold Hill Shaftesbury.

Directions

Travelling East to West on the A303 pass Stonehenge, and after approximately five miles take the left turn signed Chilmark, a mile and a half on The Black Dog will be on your left.

Travelling West to East on the A303 come off right at junction to A350, follow signs to Hindon on B3089, Chilmark is approximately four miles and the Black Dog will be on your left.

From Salisbury head west to Wilton, drive through Wilton on the A30, take the B3089 at the Barford St Martin turn, and the Black Dog will be on your right after about four miles.

From Shaftesbury head north on the A350 past East Knoyle to the Hindon turn on your right, take the B3089 to Chilmark approximately four miles the Black Dog will be on your left.
